Marcus Watson
About A BoyMarcus Watson, a Visual Arts graduate with concentrations in drawing, painting, and graphic design from McNeese State University will feature artwork in a solo exhibition entitled “…about a boy,” at Art Associates Gallery located at 809 Kirby Street, Suite 208 in Central School Arts and Humanities Center. The exhibit runs from May 4 thru May 30 and is hosted by Art Associates of Lake Charles. An opening reception will be held on May 13, 2011 at 6:00p.m. The reception is free and open to the public. The exhibit depicts the formation and acknowledgement of masculine identity. The paintings, drawing, and prints portray private, yet candid moments in which the figures attempt to determine who they are and what they want to become in relation to the world around them. The paintings portray the body language, mimicry, and frequently awkward stances of individuals who are faced with moral choices, solitude, envy, and sexuality. Watson, a native of New Orleans evacuated from Hurricane Katrina to Lake Charles in August 2005. He began his new career in Fine Art by enrolling at McNeese in the fall of 2007.
